How to Buy Bol.com Gift Cards in the Netherlands and Belgium

What Is a Bol.com Gift Card and How Can You Buy One?

You can buy Bol.com gift card Europe online through authorised resellers such as Startselect, Dundle, and Kaartdirect, paying with iDEAL, Bancontact, PayPal, or Klarna depending on your country. Bol.com is the largest online marketplace in the Netherlands and Belgium, selling books, electronics, toys, clothing, household items, and digital downloads. A Bol.com gift card (cadeaukaart) loads credit onto a bol.com account and can be applied toward any purchase on the platform. Cards come in fixed denominations of €20, €25, €50, €100, and €150, as well as a variable card that lets you choose any amount from €5 to €150 (Startselect, 2026).

When buying through a reseller, select your country, choose a denomination, complete payment at checkout, and receive the code by email within minutes. You can enter the code at bol.com checkout under "cadeaukaartcode invoeren," or add it in advance to your account balance under Accountoverzicht. Multiple codes can be combined on a single order, and any unused balance remains on your account for future purchases.

Before buying, there is one key regional point: Bol.com operates only in the Netherlands and Belgium. Gift card codes are country-specific, so a Dutch code works only on bol.com's Dutch store and a Belgian code only on the Belgian store. Selecting the wrong country at a reseller results in a code you cannot redeem, with no refund available.

Payment Methods for Buying Bol.com Gift Cards in Europe

Payment method availability depends on the country you select at the reseller's checkout. Dutch and Belgian storefronts support different local payment systems, so confirm your country setting before completing your purchase.

iDEAL

iDEAL is the primary online payment method in the Netherlands and is available for Bol.com gift card purchases at Startselect's Dutch storefront and at Dundle. You pay directly from a Dutch bank account and the code arrives by email within minutes of completion. iDEAL is a Netherlands-specific payment system and is not offered on the Belgian storefront. For Dutch bank account holders, it is the fastest option, with no surcharges reported by major resellers.

Bancontact

Bancontact is Belgium's most widely used online debit payment method and is available for Bol.com gift card purchases on Startselect's Belgian storefront alongside KBC/CBC. It is not available on the Dutch storefront. Belgian buyers should verify that their country is set to Belgium before proceeding to checkout, since choosing the Netherlands removes Bancontact from the available payment options (Startselect, 2026).

PayPal

PayPal is accepted at both the Dutch and Belgian Startselect storefronts, as well as at Dundle and Recharge.com. It is the most practical option for buyers in other European countries who do not hold a Dutch or Belgian bank account. No PayPal surcharge is disclosed by the main resellers, but this can vary by platform so confirm at checkout before paying.

Klarna

Klarna's deferred payment option, called Betaal later on the Dutch storefront, is available at Startselect for both the Netherlands and Belgium. It lets you receive the gift card code immediately and settle the payment within a deferred window. Availability depends on your credit profile and location and is not guaranteed for every buyer.

Visa and Mastercard

Visa and Mastercard are accepted at most major resellers including Startselect, Dundle, and Recharge.com, covering both Dutch and Belgian purchases. Standard debit and credit cards are the broadest option for buyers based outside the Netherlands and Belgium. Some resellers apply a small processing fee for card payments; check before completing your order.

Tips and Things to Watch Out For

Select the correct country before completing your purchase. Bol.com gift card codes are region-specific: Dutch codes are for bol.com's Dutch store and Belgian codes for the Belgian store. Most resellers prompt a country selection before showing products, but verify the setting before paying. A code from the wrong region will not redeem on your account.

Digital codes cannot be refunded. Startselect, Dundle, and other major resellers state clearly that returns are not possible once a gift card code has been issued. Check the denomination and country before completing payment.

Check your bol.com balance any time. On bol.com, navigate to Accountoverzicht and select Cadeaubonnen to see your current gift card balance and any expiry dates. Some cards carry an expiry, so check the terms at the reseller before purchasing.

Bol.com is only available in the Netherlands and Belgium. If you are based in Germany, France, or another European country and want to shop on bol.com, you need a Dutch or Belgian bol.com account. The gift card has no value outside those two stores.
