How to Pay for Your Netflix Subscription with PayPal

PayPal is accepted directly on Netflix in most European countries, including France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, and Switzerland. To set it up, go to netflix.com in a browser, open Account, and select PayPal under Membership and Billing. Netflix redirects you to PayPal to authorize recurring charges, and your subscription renews automatically from your linked PayPal account. PayPal charges no transaction fees for EUR payments in Europe. If you prefer not to link PayPal directly, you can buy a Netflix gift card from Dundle or Startselect using PayPal and redeem it at netflix.com/redeem.

How PayPal Works for Netflix Payments

PayPal is a fully integrated payment method on Netflix across most of Europe. When you connect it, Netflix charges your PayPal account each billing cycle, and PayPal draws the payment from your default funding source: your PayPal balance, a linked bank account, or a linked card. You do not need to enter card details on Netflix once PayPal is set up. Netflix confirms PayPal as an accepted payment option in France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, and Luxembourg (PayPal, 2025). For other European countries, PayPal may also be available. Check your account billing settings on netflix.com to confirm.

Payment method changes must be made on a web browser at netflix.com. The Netflix app does not support adding or changing a payment method. If PayPal does not appear in the list, it is not available for your country at this time (Netflix Help Center, 2025).

Step-by-Step: Paying for Netflix with PayPal

Step 1: Go to Netflix in a Web Browser

Open netflix.com in any browser and sign in. You cannot update billing details through the Netflix mobile or TV app.

Step 2: Open Your Account Settings

Click your profile icon in the top-right corner, then select "Account" from the menu.

Step 3: Select a New Payment Method

Under "Membership and Billing," click "Change payment method" and choose PayPal from the options shown.

Step 4: Authorize Netflix on PayPal

Netflix redirects you to PayPal. Log in and confirm that you authorize Netflix to make recurring charges. Once confirmed, you return to Netflix with PayPal set as your active payment method.

Step 5: Confirm Your PayPal Funding Source

In your PayPal settings, check which account is set as default for payments. Netflix draws from this source at each renewal: PayPal balance, linked bank account, or linked card.

If you prefer not to link PayPal directly to Netflix, buy a Netflix gift card with PayPal from a reseller and redeem it at netflix.com/redeem. The balance is applied immediately and deducted first at each renewal. Gift cards do not expire and multiple cards can be stacked.

Fees, Limits, and Availability

PayPal charges no transaction fees to consumers for online purchases in Europe when no currency conversion is involved (PayPal, 2025). For most European subscribers billed in EUR with EUR PayPal accounts, the monthly charge equals the Netflix subscription price with no added fee. Netflix subscription amounts fall well within PayPal's standard verified-account limits, so no practical ceiling applies.

Currency note: If your PayPal account currency differs from your Netflix billing currency, PayPal applies a conversion markup of approximately 3-4% above the mid-market rate (PayPal, 2025). This is most relevant for subscribers in Switzerland, where Netflix bills in CHF.

Swiss Netflix accounts are billed in CHF, not EUR. If you use the gift card route, buy a CHF-denominated Netflix gift card. EUR-denominated cards cannot be applied to a CHF account and produce a redemption error. CHF Netflix gift cards are available at Swiss supermarkets and via online resellers (Startselect, 2025).

Belgium subscribers can also pay via Bancontact as an alternative to PayPal on Netflix.
