How to Subscribe to Netflix with Bancontact in Belgium

Bancontact works for Netflix payments in Belgium in two ways: directly at Netflix.com checkout for your first payment, or indirectly by purchasing a Netflix gift card at a Belgian reseller. For the direct route, Bancontact is listed as a payment option at netflix.com/be during sign-up. Your first month is charged via Bancontact, and ongoing billing then converts to SEPA Direct Debit automatically. If you prefer not to link your bank details to Netflix, resellers like Startselect, KaartDirect, and Dundle sell Netflix gift cards and all accept Bancontact at checkout.

How Bancontact Works for Netflix Payments

Bancontact is Belgium's primary online payment network, accounting for over 2.5 billion transactions in 2024 (Bancontact, 2025). Netflix accepts it in two ways: directly at checkout on netflix.com/be for the initial payment, and indirectly through Netflix gift cards purchased with Bancontact from Belgian resellers.

For the direct route, Bancontact appears alongside Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal when you sign up on netflix.com/be. Your first payment is processed via Bancontact: you scan a QR code with your bank's app (KBC, BNP Paribas Fortis, Belfius, ING, or Payconiq). From the second billing cycle onward, Netflix automatically switches to SEPA Direct Debit using the IBAN linked to your Bancontact account. Your ongoing debits will appear as SEPA transactions rather than as Bancontact on your bank statement.

For the gift card route, resellers like Startselect, KaartDirect, and Dundle sell Netflix Belgium gift cards starting at €15. You pay with Bancontact, get a code by email, and redeem it at netflix.com/be-en/redeem. This method suits anyone who wants to pay without setting up automatic recurring billing.

Subscribing through the Apple App Store or Google Play does not support Bancontact. Open netflix.com/be directly in a browser to access Bancontact at checkout.

Step-by-Step: Paying for Netflix with Bancontact

Step 1: Choose the Direct or Gift Card Route

If you want automatic monthly billing, go to netflix.com/be-en, pick your plan, and select Bancontact on the payment screen. Complete the QR code scan in your banking app to activate your subscription. Ongoing billing converts to SEPA Direct Debit from the second month. If you prefer to pay manually without storing bank details with Netflix, follow Steps 2 and 3 instead.

Step 2: Buy a Netflix Gift Card with Bancontact

Go to Startselect, KaartDirect, or Dundle and select a Netflix Belgium gift card. KaartDirect offers denominations from €15; Startselect and Dundle start at €25. At checkout, select Bancontact. On desktop, scan the QR code with your bank app; on mobile, confirm the payment in your banking app. The code arrives by email within minutes.

Step 3: Redeem the Gift Card on Netflix

Go to netflix.com/be-en/redeem and sign in (or create a new account). Enter the code from your email. Netflix applies the full value to your account balance, which is consumed automatically each billing cycle until exhausted. Unused balance rolls over to the next month.

Step 4: Confirm Your Plan and Pricing

Belgian Netflix plans as of November 2025: Standard costs €10.99/month (1 screen, HD), Standard costs €16.99/month (2 screens, Full HD), and Premium costs €21.99/month (4 screens, 4K) (Netflix, 2025). An ad-supported tier is not yet available in Belgium and is expected to launch in 2027 (Brussels Times, 2025).

Fees, Limits, and Availability

Bancontact carries no consumer fees. Startselect, KaartDirect, and Dundle sell Netflix gift cards at face value with no added surcharge. The direct Netflix.com route also has no payment method fee.

Bancontact is available to all Belgian residents across Flanders, Wallonia, and the Brussels-Capital Region. It is not available in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. If you are outside Belgium, Bancontact cannot be used: consider PayPal, iDEAL (Netherlands), or a credit card instead.

Netflix gift card balances do not auto-renew. When the balance runs out, Netflix pauses your account. Top up before the balance is fully consumed to avoid a lapse in access.
