How to Pay for Your Spotify Premium with PayPal in Europe
How PayPal Works for Your Spotify Subscription
PayPal is a native payment option at Spotify's checkout in all major European markets, including Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands, and most other EU and EEA countries. When you subscribe through Spotify's website, PayPal appears on the payment screen alongside credit cards, SEPA Direct Debit, and local methods such as iDEAL. Selecting PayPal triggers a redirect to PayPal's login and approval flow, where Spotify requests a recurring billing authorization. After you approve, Spotify charges your PayPal account each month automatically.
One requirement to know before you start: your PayPal account must have a credit card, debit card, or bank account linked to it. Spotify cannot process a recurring payment against a PayPal wallet balance alone. If your PayPal account has no linked funding source, the authorization will fail at step three. Add a card or bank account to PayPal first.
Step-by-Step: Subscribing to Spotify Premium via PayPal
Step 1: Open the Spotify Premium page
Visit spotify.com/premium (or your country version: spotify.com/de/premium for Germany, spotify.com/fr/premium for France). Choose your plan: Individual, Duo, Family, or Student. Log in with your Spotify account, or create one at this step.
Step 2: Select PayPal at checkout
On the payment screen, click PayPal and then Continue. If PayPal is not listed, check that your Spotify account country is set correctly under Account settings. The available payment methods depend on your account's registered country.
Step 3: Log in to PayPal and approve the billing agreement
Spotify redirects you to PayPal. Log in, review the recurring monthly amount, and approve the billing authorization. You are not charged at this step.
Step 4: Confirm and activate your subscription
Return to Spotify and confirm the order. Your Premium subscription activates immediately.
Switching from another payment method to PayPal: Log in at account.spotify.com, navigate to Your Plan, and click Update next to your current payment method. Select PayPal, complete the authorization, and save. The change takes effect at your next billing date. Use a web browser for this; the Spotify iOS app cannot update payment methods directly.
Buy a Spotify gift card with PayPal: If you prefer a one-time payment rather than a recurring billing agreement, resellers sell Spotify gift cards and accept PayPal at checkout. Redeem the card at spotify.com/redeem to add credit to your Spotify balance.
Fees, Limits, and Availability
PayPal charges no extra fee to European consumers for subscription payments within the EEA. Spotify absorbs payment processing costs, so the price shown at checkout is the amount you pay.
Current Individual plan monthly prices: €12.99 in Germany and Austria (Spotify, August 2025), €12.14 in France (Spotify, June 2025), and €11.99 in Belgium and the Netherlands (Spotify, April 2025). Switzerland uses CHF pricing at CHF 15.95/month (Spotify, October 2025); currency conversion fees from your card issuer may apply if your PayPal draws from a EUR-denominated card.
PayPal is available for Spotify subscriptions across all major EU and EEA markets. There is no transaction minimum or maximum.
