Quick answer
Klarna works for hotel bookings on Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, and Airbnb, as well as directly on NH Hotels, Anantara, and Tivoli sites. Choose Pay in 30 Days or Pay in 3 equal instalments at checkout; both are free across most European markets if paid on time. On Booking.com, Klarna only appears for properties enrolled in the Payments by Booking.com system, so availability varies by listing. Belgian residents can use Pay in 30 Days but not Pay in 3. Swiss users pay in CHF with a 14-day invoice window.

How Klarna Works for Hotel Bookings

Klarna works for hotel bookings on Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, and Airbnb, as well as directly on hotel websites including NH Hotels, Anantara, and Tivoli. When you select Klarna at checkout, Klarna pays the hotel in full immediately. You repay either in a single payment after 30 days (Pay in 30 Days) or in three equal instalments over 60 days (Pay in 3). Both are free if paid on time.

Three mechanisms often get labelled "pay later" for hotels. Only one is a Klarna credit product. "Pay at property" rates on Booking.com defer the card charge to check-in but involve no credit. "Card-guarantee" bookings hold your card at booking and run the charge days before your stay. Neither of these two requires a Klarna account or credit assessment.

On Booking.com, Klarna is available only for properties enrolled in the Payments by Booking.com system. Independent hotels and many chains collect payment directly, so Klarna will not appear for those listings. Check the payment step at checkout to confirm availability for a specific property.

Step-by-Step: Booking a Hotel with Klarna

Step 1: Open a Klarna-enabled platform

Go to Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, or Airbnb. For direct hotel bookings, NH Hotels, Anantara, Tivoli, and Oaks support Klarna across 13 European markets as of May 2026 (Klarna, 2026). The EuroParcs holiday park group also supports Klarna in Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria.

Step 2: Search and select your stay

Enter your destination, travel dates, and number of guests. Select your room type and rate, then proceed to the checkout page.

Step 3: Select Klarna at the payment step

On the payment page, choose Klarna from the payment options and select your product: Pay in 30 Days, Pay in 3, or Pay Now. Options available depend on your country of residence and the merchant's Klarna integration.

Step 4: Complete the Klarna approval check

Klarna runs a soft credit assessment in the background. This does not affect your credit score. Review the repayment schedule: the amount due now, upcoming payment dates, and any fees. Confirm the booking.

Step 5: Booking confirmed

The hotel or OTA receives full payment from Klarna. Your booking confirmation arrives by email. Open the Klarna app to view and manage your repayment schedule.

Fees, Limits, and Availability

Pay in 30 Days and Pay in 3 are free across Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Austria when paid on time. Late or failed payments carry fees: up to €7 per failed payment attempt in Germany and Austria (transaktionsgebuehren.com, 2026). In the Netherlands, the Dutch Debt Collection Costs Act applies after 30 days with a minimum collection fee of €40. Multi-month Klarna financing carries an effective APR of 13.60% in Germany as of October 2025 (transaktionsgebuehren.com).

Klarna does not publish a fixed maximum booking amount for hotel stays. Approval depends on your account history and a per-transaction credit assessment. Airbnb France sets its own limit: €35 to €2,500 per booking (Airbnb, 2026). Pierre & Vacances France allows Klarna up to €4,500 for eligible residents (Pierre & Vacances, 2026).

Belgian residents cannot use Klarna Pay in 3 for hotel bookings. Only Pay Now and Pay in 30 Days are available in Belgium. Swiss users pay in CHF with a 14-day invoice window (not 30 days) and a financing APR of 14.79% (Klarna CH, 2026).
